Meet Our Tanker Trot Spotlight Runner: Richard Barnett
We'd like to introduce you to an extraordinary individual who embodies the spirit of endurance, adventure, and a passion for running like no other. Meet Assistant Fire Chief Richard Barnett with 22 CES/CEF, a dedicated runner with an impressive list of runs and races under his belt. We had the privilege of chatting with Richard, and his running journey is nothing short of remarkable.
From 5Ks to 100Ks - An Impressive Journey
Richard's running journey began in 2010, and since then, he's laced up his running shoes for approximately 35 to 40 runs and races. But it's not just the number of events that's impressive; it's the incredible variety. From 5Ks to the ultimate test of endurance in a 100K run, Richard has done it all.
Imagine conquering 100 kilometers on foot! Richard achieved this monumental feat at the Rails to Trails Fall Ultra Extravaganza in Ottawa, KS, in October 2021. It's a testament to his unwavering determination and commitment to pushing his limits.
A Run to Remember - Bozeman's Scenic Half Marathon
When asked about his most memorable run, Richard immediately takes us to Bozeman, Montana. In March 2013, he participated in the "Run For the Pub Half Marathon," and it was a life-changing experience. The scenic beauty, the perfect weather, and the sense of pure freedom he felt during that race left an indelible mark on him.
For Richard, running isn't just about the miles; it's about embracing the world's breathtaking beauty one stride at a time.
Going the Extra Mile - Literally!
While many of us would hesitate at the thought of running an ultra-marathon, Richard tackled it head-on. His achievement of completing the 100K run in Ottawa is an inspiration to anyone who's ever thought about taking on a seemingly impossible challenge. It's a reminder that with determination and perseverance, the extraordinary is within reach.
16,000 Miles and Counting
Since becoming a runner in 2010, Richard estimates that he's covered an astonishing 16,000 miles. That's like running across the United States multiple times! His dedication to the sport is truly awe-inspiring.
OKC Memorial Marathon - A Race to Remember
Richard also recently participated in the OKC Memorial Marathon, an event that left an indelible mark on him. The incredible support from race organizers, volunteers, first responders, and the community itself made it a race like no other. It's a testament to the power of community and the bond that runners share. Richard can't wait to do it all over again, and we can't wait to see him in action.
