The Arts and Crafts Center is more than just crafts. The center houses a variety of programs and services including the woodworking shop, engraving shop, custom picture framing shop large format printing services, lamination services and a full service automotive shop.  You can take classes in Knitting, Digital Photography, Crochet, Basket Weaving, Drop Spindle Spinning, Oil Painting, Picture Framing, and Woodworking.  New classes are always being added - check out the list of current classes and call for exact schedule dates/times. Call for information on car maintenance classes!

CLASSES:

 

Drop Spindle Spinning Class -  Learn & practice the art of twisting fiber into a continuous thread and Spin Your Own Yarn!

There is nothing more soothing and peaceful as spinning!  Come twist the evening away spinning fibers as light as clouds, creating novelty yarns or learning other new spinning techniques from instructor Pat Doherty at the Arts & Crafts Center.

The “dreaded drop spindle” need not be feared.  All it takes is a little practice and a sense of humor!  Call now for class date information

Learn to Crochet Class -  Crochet allows you to create interesting fabrics for blankets, bags, hats and garments—and it fun!  In this two-session class, learn all the basic stitches of crochet and begin learning to read pattern instructions.  Beginners and those needing a “refresher” course are welcome.  (Spin your own yarn for this class by taking “Drop Spindle Spinning Class”-see info above)  Call now for class date information.

Knitting 101 Class - This class is for beginners or for those who are still learning the basics.  Start by learning to cast on, knit, purl and combination stitches.  Knitting 101 is a pre-requisite for K102 (for beginners).  (Spin your own yarn for this class by taking “Drop Spindle Spinning Class”-see info above)  Call now for class date information.

Knitting 102 ClassThis class builds on the K101 class, or your previous experience—there is still more to learn!  During this class you will learn several ways to cast on, bind off, increase and decrease.  You will continue to learn about stitch construction and correcting mistakes.  You will become familiar with reading patterns as well as how to read the yarn ball band.  (Spin your own yarn for this class by taking “Drop Spindle Spinning Class”-see info above)  Call now for class date information.

--K102 Class - $40.00 for two-part class + small supply list

 

Knitting 103 “Project” Class -  This class will focus on specific projects such as hats, gloves, or socks.  This will help the student expand on the several ways to cast on, increase and decrease, how to “read” stitches, to fix mistakes and focus on neat edges.  You will also learn more about reading patterns.  **This Class Requires Homework that MUST be completed before the first night of Class!  Pre-requisite of K102 HIGHLY encouraged.  (Spin your own yarn for this class by taking “Drop Spindle Spinning Class”-see info above)  Call now for class date information.

  --K103 Class - $40.00 for two-part class + small supply list

 

Open Knitting and/or Crochet -  This is a complimentary service that we provide for those who may have gotten momentarily stuck on a project and need help to proceed or for those who just need extra time with instructor assistance.   Registration still required please!  Call now for class date information.

Digital Photography Class -  If you think photography is fun now, wait until you really understand your camera!  You will find that your creative urges go through the roof!  You will see the world entirely differently & get so much more from your photos!  Beginner thru more advanced courses are offered.  Call now for class date information.

Basket Weaving Class -  Learn the ancient art of basket making!  Basket weaving is one of the widest spread crafts in the history of human civilization.  The oldest known baskets have been carbon dated to be at least 10,000 years old.  Become a part of history by creating your own hand-made baskets for decoration, specific uses, or to give as gifts.  Classes are always forming.  Beginner to advance students are always welcome.  Call now for class date information.

Oil Painting Workshop -  Self-paced oil painting classes with individualized instruction.  Explore your hidden talents and express your creativity.  Oil Painting is a wonderful medium for lasting memories.  Learn basic techniques in composition, proportion, perspective, color & texture.  Beginner painters and more advanced students are invited to join the weekly class.  Call now for more specific information.

Picture Frame Making Class -   Learn the tricks of the trade from professional framers!  Our course teaches you how to lay-out, measure and cut your own mat; how to select, cut and join your picture frames; then how to finish off the picture--ready to hang on your wall.  Classes are taught one-on-one for the best learning experience available.  All tools are provided – bring nothing but yourself and your artwork!  Hundreds of Mat & Frame styles to choose from.

Frame it yourself and same at least 30% over downtown “box store” prices.

The Wood Shop is currently undergoing some restructuring after the retirement of our woodworker, Clark Shultz. Please bear with us while we make some changes in the organization. The shop will remain closed to customers during this time, but will re-open in June/July timeframe. Please keep checking this website for re-open status, or call 759-4084.
